Urban Retreats

Going on retreat is a great way to give ourselves better conditions in which to practise. But it's not always possible, both time and money-wise to get away.

Urban Retreats are a fantastic opportunity to create more retreat-like conditions in our lives and to take our practice deeper. We don't have to leave home or take time off work, we can be on retreat alongside lots of our friends in the local Sangha! We can also learn new ways to deepen our practise in daily life which we can carry on with long afterwards.

The basic idea behind Urban Retreats is to enable people to take their practice deeper and integrate it more fully into their everyday lives. This is brought about by meeting together for a day at the Centre on two consecutive weekends, with a week of intensive practice in between.

Urban Retreats can have a strong transformative effect because participants experience a week of more intensive practice and start to reflect on how to make normal daily life more supportive for practice. People find out how to bring something of the retreat experience into their normal daily lives.

Urban Retreats usually begin with a day retreat at the Centre on a Saturday or Sunday when we can clarify our intentions, lay our plans and dedicate the week the come. There's the opportunity to stay connected with the retreat (and other retreatants) throughout the week and to meet again for another day retreat the following weekend.

They are suitable for anyone familiar with the mindfulness of breathing and metta bhavana (developing loving-kindness) meditation practices.

The next Urban Retreat starts on Saturday 16th January and finishes Saturday 23rd January.
