Borrow the Buddhist Shrine Box...

Buddhist shrines are always an interesting focal point when we bring them on school visits! Most children and young people seem to enjoy and engage with the symbolism, fragrance and colours. Given the interest when we assemble a Buddhist shrine during visits, we thought it would be useful to offer a Buddhist shrine box for schools to borrow, so you can build your own shrines in school when studying Buddhism.

If you would be interested in borrowing the box and are fairly local to the Bristol area, please contact the Buddhist Centre team on 0117 924 9991 or email info [at] bristol-buddhist-centre.org  (*address disguised to prevent "harvesting" by spam email list compilers - please insert "@" as indicated.)

Please book ahead rather than just turn up at the office, to ensure that there is someone to greet you and so the shrine box is not already on loan.   We ask for a returnable deposit of £20 whilst the shrine is in your care. We also suggest that the shrine box is borrowed for up to a fortnight.

The box contains everything you will need to build a shrine (except for fresh flowers), full guidelines as to how to build a shrine, an explanation of the symbolism, why Buddhists build shrines and some simple exercises that you might want to use in the classroom with your pupils.

We hope you enjoy having a shrine in your classroom!
